Ahead of this weekend’s 62nd annual Grammy Awards, coming up on January 26 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, master interviewer Gayle King sat down for a chat with some of the show’s featured artists for a Grammy special. Among those were Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, who revealed some intimate details of their lives together. King shared a couple of sneak previews in clips on her Instagram.
King asks the country-pop crossover couple why their relationship works. Is it because opposites attract?
Well, Shelton replied, that’s not really it. “All of those things are just little details, it has nothing to do with what matters,” he explained, referring to their aesthetic choices and reputations within their respective genres. “And what matters to me is just the human being that she is on the inside. Gwen has a way of looking at life in a way that I’ve never experienced.”
He continued that he loves her for her unique “point of view. She has a way of looking at a person’s situation from every angle. She is the most understanding, kind-hearted person that I’ve ever met. I learn something from her every day.”

King also asked the pair to move through some quick answers to probing questions in a lightning round during the interview.
Dream collaboration? For Stefani, it would be Rihanna or Post Malone. “I love him,” she said.
If you weren’t a musician, you would be…? For Shelton, “I’d probably still be roofin’ houses. That’s what I was doing before.”
For her part, Stefani said she’d probably be working in hair and makeup. (An excellent fit, we say.)

Favorite place in the world? For Shelton, it’s his land in Oklahoma. And that’s Stefani’s pick, too. “I’d probably have to agree,” she told King. “But only when Blake’s there.”
King also asked the pair: Where do you see yourself in the next decade? “I have a lot of kids, so I see myself at a lot of football games!” Stefani said. And Shelton agreed on that matter too. “In the next 10 years, I see myself in this exact same scenario.”
And it’s a good place to be. When King asked each to describe their lives in one word, Shelton said simply “lucky.” And Stefani said, “blessed.”
